As was established earlier, HA Stebbins' intent with his Book of Mormon lectures, was to prove the Book of Mormon occurred in Central America, let's now look at how Stebbins arrived at this false idea. He mentioned how in his autobiography.
The autobiography of Henry A. Stebbins notes he was an honorable man who was devoted to his belief in The Book of Mormon and dedicated to the RLDS Church to which he belonged.Stebbins, while serving in the Civil War, made a promise to the Lord that he would do his will. After the war, he returned to Wisconsin and lived with his Uncle who had originally been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but later joined the "Reorganized Church."
"Soon after my return I was invited by my uncleHenry Pease to visit them in Newark, Rock County, Wisconsin, and I went and remained some time. Their home was about a mile from where my mother lived when I was a small boy, too young to realize that my unclewas a "Morm…

"One of our purposes is to prove by the Book of Mormon that Central America was the very country in which the most ancient people first dwelt."
In his 1924 book, L.E. Hills mentions H.A. Stebbins: "Elder H. A. Stebbins has always been considered one of the best Book of Mormon students we have ever had in the (RLDS) church."Henry A. Stebbins was born on January 28, 1844, exactly five months before the Martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith, who was murdered in cold blood on June 27, 1844.H.A. Stebbins become a prominent member of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or RLDS Church, holding many administrative leadership positions.
H.A. STEBBINS REJECTS BRIGHAM YOUNGLike all members of the RLDS Church, Stebbins rejected the Prophet Joseph Smith's succesor, Brigham Young. This can be seen in the RLDS Church General Conference Resolutions:"Adopted June 12, 1852.No. 1. Resolved, That this conference regards the pretensions of Brigham Young, J…

TWO HILLS CALLED CUMORAH by- REJECTING THE PROPHETS - - EMBRACING THE SCHOLARS - As mentioned earlier, Dr. John L. Sorenson in his 1990 work credits L.E. Hills as the first to come up with a Two Cumorah Book of Mormon geography theory restricted to Mesoamerica. In his 1924 book L.E. Hills made many comparisons of The Book of Mormon to Mesoamerica, though he never used the word "Mesoamerica." But these are not important if we don't understand why he arrived at the idea that the events of The Book of Mormon were restricted to that area.On pages 130-132, Hills refers to a RLDS member by the name of H.A. Stebbins:"I will read an extract from an article which was printed in the Saints' Herald under date of March 25, 1911. I shall be glad to have you recognize the importance of H. A. Stebbins' article at this juncture. Notice this statement: The map will have to be revised, as also our students will need to correct their ideas about the hills, and lands, and …
